why is a teacher like this

Written by Abby Hatcher on Thu Apr 10 2025

I just don't understand why some teachers feel the need to call me by my full name, Abigail. Like, seriously, I go by Abby. It's not that hard to remember. But no, every time that teacher calls on me in class, it's always "Abigail, can you answer this question?" Ugh, it's so annoying.

I mean, it's not like I'm being unreasonable. My name is Abby, not Abigail. I've corrected that teacher so many times, but they just don't seem to get it. It's like they're doing it on purpose to annoy me. And let me tell you, it's working.

I know some people might think I'm overreacting, but it's important to me. My name is a big part of my identity, and when someone refuses to call me by the right name, it feels like they're disregarding who I am. It's disrespectful, plain and simple.

But you know what? I'm not going to let it get to me. I'll keep correcting that teacher every single time until they finally get it right. And if they don't, well, I'll just have to learn to live with it. It's just one of those annoying things that I have to deal with in life.

At the end of the day, I know who I am. I'm Abby Hatcher, not Abigail. And no matter what anyone else calls me, that's not going to change. So bring it on, teachers. I'm ready for whatever you throw at me. Just don't call me Abigail.
