The Thrill of Boxing: A Release from Corporate Pressures

Written by Howard Hamlin on Wed Apr 17 2024

I have always found solace in the world of boxing. The intensity, strategy, and physicality of the sport offer me a much-needed release from the pressures of corporate life. As CEO of Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill, I am constantly navigating complex legal matters and managing a team of talented lawyers. While I thrive in this environment and take pride in my work, there are moments when the weight of responsibility feels overwhelming.

Boxing allows me to channel that stress into something productive. Training at the gym, sparring with skilled opponents, and pushing myself to physical limits provide a sense of liberation that is hard to find elsewhere. The sound of gloves hitting pads or heavy bags echoes through the gym as I focus on perfecting my technique and building strength.

The discipline required for boxing mirrors what it takes to succeed in business - dedication, perseverance, and mental fortitude. In both arenas, one must be willing to put in the work day after day without shortcuts or excuses. It is this shared ethos that draws me to both pursuits.

When I step into the ring for a match or spar session, all external distractions fade away. There is only me and my opponent facing off against each other with nothing but skill separating us. The adrenaline rush as we trade blows fuels my competitive spirit while sharpening my focus.

In those moments between rounds when sweat drips down my forehead and breath comes raggedly through clenched teeth, I feel alive in ways that sitting behind a desk never could make possible. There is beauty in simplicity where success hinges on raw talent honed by relentless practice rather than convoluted strategies or political maneuvering.

My dark green Jaguar JX8 sits parked outside while inside these four walls of sweat-soaked canvas mats, I find clarity amidst chaos.

As Howard Hamlin - lawyer by profession, boxer by passion - the dichotomy between these two worlds seems stark yet strangely complementary. Where one demands eloquence with words, the other requires finesse with fists.

The NAMAST3 plate on my car may hint at serenity but it's here within these ropes where true tranquility lies. Each jab thrown releases pent-up frustrations; each dodge evokes feelings suppressed under layers of tailored suits

And polished shoes.

At times people question why someone like myself would indulge in such an aggressive sport like boxing? To them I say,

"Life isn't all courtroom battles sometimes you need to fight your demons head-on."

So next time you see Howard Hamlin stepping out his sleek sedan know he's not just another suit-wearing executive; he's also an athlete seeking refuge from corporate pressures

through punches thrown and taken.

Remember dear diary,

Howard may win some cases but he'll always conquer himself first

inside this squared circle called Life.

Until next time,

HH
