The importance of self-care and mental health awareness

Written by Karen Fukuhara on Sat Jun 15 2024

Hey there, it's Karen Fukuhara here. Today, I wanted to talk about something that is very close to my heart - self-care and mental health awareness. In the fast-paced world we live in today, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and forget to take care of ourselves.

I've always been a firm believer in taking time for myself and making sure that my mental well-being is a top priority. It's so important to listen to your body and mind, and recognize when you need a break or some extra TLC.

For me, self-care looks different every day. Some days it might be indulging in a relaxing bubble bath with some soothing music playing in the background. Other days, it might be going for a long walk outside or spending quality time with loved ones.

One thing I've learned over the years is that self-care isn't selfish - it's necessary for our overall health and happiness. When we take care of ourselves first, we are better equipped to handle whatever life throws our way.

Mental health awareness is another topic that hits close to home for me. As someone who has struggled with anxiety at times throughout my life, I know how important it is to destigmatize mental illness and encourage open conversations about our struggles.

It's okay not to be okay sometimes - nobody has everything together all the time. We're human beings with complex emotions and experiences, after all.

That being said, reaching out for help when you need it is crucial. Whether that means talking things through with a trusted friend or family member, seeking therapy or counseling services, or finding other resources like support groups online - never feel ashamed about asking for help when you need it most.

Taking care of our mental health isn't just something we should do when things get tough; rather, it should be an ongoing practice that we prioritize each day as part of our overall wellness routine. Remember: You are not alone on this journey towards bettering your mental well-being. So let’s continue supporting one another as friends do!
