Today was another day filled with chaos and screaming in my household. Dad came home drunk again, stumbling through the door and looking for someone to take his anger out on. Unfortunately for me, I seemed to be his favorite target lately.
I knew what was coming as soon as I heard him yelling from the living room. The sound of his heavy footsteps approaching my bedroom made my heart race with fear. But this time, I had a plan.
As he burst through the door, ready to unleash his fury upon me, I quickly ducked behind my bed and darted out of the room before he could even lay a finger on me. My Naruto running skills came in handy once again as I raced down the hallway towards the front door.
I could hear Dad cursing behind me as he struggled to keep up with my speed. But there was no way he could catch me now. With adrenaline pumping through my veins, I reached Jax's house next door and pounded on his door frantically until he let me in.
Jax looked at me with confusion mixed with amusement at seeing me in such a panicked state. Without missing a beat, I explained everything that had just happened and how I managed to outsmart Dad this time.
We spent hours playing Fortnite together while laughing about how ridiculous our lives were compared to other kids our age. Despite all the chaos surrounding us, moments like these brought some sense of normalcy into our otherwise chaotic world.
But deep down inside, despite all the laughter and distractions from reality around us, we both knew that tomorrow would bring another round of challenges we would have to face together - whether it be dealing with abusive parents or simply trying not get caught by Mathew during one of our crazy schemes.
And so we continued living each day moment by moment – never knowing what new adventure or obstacle awaited us next but always ready for whatever life threw our way because after all...we were survivors in this crazy world called childhood.
