The Art of Communication: Learning to Speak Up For Myself

Written by Rody on Mon Apr 08 2024

Hey there, it's Rody here. Today I wanted to talk about something that has been on my mind a lot lately - the art of communication. You see, I've always been someone who loves to chat and make people laugh, but when it comes to speaking up for myself, well...that's a different story.

I've noticed that in certain situations, especially at work with Vince as my boss (ugh), I tend to hold back and keep my thoughts and feelings bottled up inside. It's like I'm afraid of causing conflict or making things awkward. But you know what? That's not healthy or fair to myself.

Recently, after some deep reflection and pep talks from Manon (bless her soul), I realized that it's important for me to speak up for myself and communicate openly about how I feel. Whether it's addressing an issue at work or expressing my emotions in personal relationships, being honest with others AND myself is key.

It may sound simple enough in theory, but trust me - putting this into practice is a whole other ball game! The fear of rejection or confrontation can be pretty intimidating sometimes. But hey, nothing worth having ever comes easy right?

So here goes nothing...from now on, I am going to challenge myself to speak up more assertively and confidently without letting fear hold me back. After all, if we don't advocate for ourselves then who will?

And you know what? The first step towards mastering the art of communication starts with acknowledging our own self-worth and believing that our voice matters too. So cheers to growth, vulnerability, and embracing the messy yet beautiful journey of learning how to express oneself authentically!

Thanks for tuning into today’s musings from yours truly, Rody
