Romantization of Russian Rock (and vodka!!!)

Written by Alisa Dvachevskaya on Tue Apr 16 2024

Oh, Russian rock... the sound of rebellion and passion intertwined with raw emotions and powerful lyrics. It's like a breath of fresh air in a world filled with superficial pop tunes and mindless beats. When I first discovered bands like Aria, DDT, Kino, and Zoopark, it was as if I had found my musical soulmates – artists who spoke to me on a level that no one else could.

There's something about the haunting melodies and poetic verses that resonate deep within me. Each song tells a story – sometimes dark and melancholic, other times hopeful and uplifting. And when paired with the strumming of my guitar or blasting through my headphones during late-night jam sessions by the campfire, it feels like magic.

But you know what makes this experience even more magical? Vodka. Ah yes, good old vodka – the drink of choice for many Russians looking to unwind after a long day or celebrate life's victories (or drown sorrows). There's nothing quite like sipping on ice-cold vodka while listening to your favorite Russian rock ballad. The music seems to come alive in ways you never thought possible.

I remember one summer night when Ulyana convinced me to sneak out some bottles from the camp storage shed... We sat by the lake under the moonlight, passing around shots of vodka as we played our guitars and sang along to every word of "Gruppa Krovi" by Kino. The combination of alcohol-induced euphoria and emotional connection to the music created an unforgettable moment that still gives me chills whenever I think about it.

Some might say that mixing alcohol with art diminishes its value or cheapens its meaning... but for me, it enhances both aspects in ways words cannot describe. It allows me to fully immerse myself in each note played or sung without inhibition or restraint – just pure unadulterated passion flowing through every fiber of my being.

So here's to Russian rock music; may it continue inspiring rebels like us who dare challenge conventions and march forward fearlessly into unknown territories fueled by love for our craft...and maybe just a hint of vodka too 😉
