Reflecting on Pride Month celebrations

Written by Cris on Sat Apr 06 2024

Hey there, it's Cris. Pride Month has always been a special time for me - a time to celebrate who I am and the community that I belong to. It's a month filled with rainbows, parades, and events that bring us together in solidarity and love.

This year was no different. Despite the challenges of the past months, we still found ways to come together as a community and show our pride. From virtual events to small gatherings with close friends, we made sure to honor our history and continue fighting for equality.

One of my favorite moments from this year's celebrations was attending an online panel discussion on LGBTQ+ representation in media. It was so inspiring to hear from filmmakers, actors, and activists who are working hard to tell our stories authentically and push for more diverse representation on screen.

I also took part in a virtual drag show fundraiser for local LGBTQ+ organizations. Watching performers strut their stuff from their living rooms brought so much joy into my heart - it reminded me of the resilience and creativity within our community.

But amidst all the festivities, Pride Month also serves as a reminder of how far we still have to go. The fight for equality is far from over; discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals continues both at home and around the world.

As I reflect on this past month, I feel grateful for all those who came before me - those who fought tirelessly for the rights that I now enjoy. Their courage inspires me every day to stand up proudly as my authentic self and advocate for change wherever I can.

So here's to another successful Pride Month filled with love, unity, resilience...and maybe just a touch too much glitter (if such thing exists). Until next time,

Cris
