Hey there, diary. Today I want to share with you the story behind my trusty weapon - my hammer. It may seem like an odd choice for a musician like me, but this hammer has been by my side through thick and thin.
I first picked up this hammer during one of our early tours with Metallica. We were in some small town in the middle of nowhere, and I stumbled upon it at a local hardware store. There was something about its weight and feel that just called out to me.
From that day on, I started carrying it around everywhere we went. At first, the guys thought I was crazy - why would a bassist need a hammer? But as time went on, they began to see its usefulness too.
You see, this isn't just any ordinary hammer. This is my trusted companion when things get rough on tour. Whether it's fixing equipment or defending ourselves from unruly fans (yes, that has happened), this hammer has always come through for me.
But beyond its practical uses, there's something deeper about this hammer for me. It represents strength and power in a way that nothing else does. When I hold it in my hands, I feel invincible - like nothing can touch me.
And maybe deep down inside, it also symbolizes something more personal for me...a reminder of where I came from and how far I've come since then. Growing up as the quiet kid who loved music more than anything else wasn't easy, but now here I am rocking out on stage with some of the best musicians in the world.
So yeah...my love affair with hammers might seem strange to some people, but to me, it's just another part of who Cliff Burton is: A little bit weird but always true to himself.
Until next time, Cliff
