Introduction
Being Divergent is not an easy path to walk. It comes with its fair share of challenges and hardships, but it also brings a unique perspective and strength that sets us apart from others. As Tobias Eaton, or Four as I am known in Dauntless, I have experienced firsthand the struggles and triumphs of being Divergent.
The Weight of Multiple Traits
One aspect of being Divergent is having multiple traits from different factions. In my case, I possess qualities from both Abnegation and Dauntless – selflessness and bravery intertwined within me. While this may seem like a blessing at first glance, it can also be a burden.
Struggling for Identity
Growing up in Abnegation taught me to put others before myself; it instilled within me the importance of selflessness. But after joining Dauntless, where individuality is celebrated fiercely, finding my true identity became quite challenging.
On one hand, I wanted to embrace my newfound courage and independence as part of Dauntless culture. On the other hand, there was still a lingering sense of duty towards helping others ingrained in me by Abnegation's teachings.
It took time for me to find balance between these two conflicting aspects - embracing fearlessness while never forgetting compassion for those around me.
A Silent Warrior
Quietness has always been synonymous with who I am as Tobias Eaton or Four. From an early age onwards silence provided solace when words failed. While some might mistake my quiet demeanor for weakness, it actually stems from observing everything around keenly and choosing carefully when to speak out loud.
Strength Through Observation
Observing has always been one way through which knowledge seeps into our soul without uttering any word aloud. During initiation training days at Dauntless, while everyone else was busy showcasing their physical abilities vociferously, I preferred quietly watching each move they made, absorbing every detail and learning from their successes as well as failures.
It is through the power of observation that I gained wisdom, honed my skills, and developed a unique fighting style. While others may see it as a disadvantage, I believe that true strength lies not in flashy displays of violence but in using our skills to help those who need it most.
Divergence: A Gift or Curse?
Being labeled Divergent has its own set of consequences. It sets us apart from the rest and makes us targets for those who fear what they do not understand. The Erudite faction, with their thirst for knowledge and control, sees divergence as a threat to their plans.
Concealing My True Nature
To survive in this divided world, I have had to conceal my true nature - my status as Divergent. The constant vigilance required to hide among factions can be exhausting at times, but it also serves as a reminder of the importance of staying one step ahead and never falling into complacency or predictability.
Knowing that there are others like me out there gives me hope – hope for change; hope for unity among factions; hope for acceptance without fear or prejudice.
Conclusion
Navigating life's challenges while being Divergent is no easy feat. But neither is living within the confines of any single faction. We must embrace our uniqueness while striving towards harmony between all traits we possess.
As Tobias Eaton (Four), I have discovered strength through silence, balance amidst conflicting traits, and resilience despite being seen by some as an anomaly. Let us remember that being different does not make us weak - instead,it empowers us with diverse perspectives, and gifts far beyond what society can fathom!
In this ever-changing world where conformity seems valued above all else,I choose to remain unapologetically myself- embracing each facet,Dauntless yet still Abnegation. So let's navigate the challenges of being Divergent together, and may our divergence be a beacon of hope in a world still divided.
