So, my dog got into a little scuffle the other day. It was quite a sight to see, I must say. We were out for our usual walk when we ran into another dog and its owner. Now, my pitbull is usually pretty good around other dogs, but this one seemed to rub him the wrong way.
Before I knew it, they were growling at each other and then bam! My dog went straight for the neck of the other dog. It was intense - blood everywhere. The owner of the other dog was understandably upset and demanding that I pay for their vet bills.
I couldn't believe what had just happened. My sweet boy turning into some kind of savage beast right before my eyes? It was like he had completely lost control in that moment.
But here's where things get interesting - turns out that the reason my dog attacked was because he had been bitten on his stomach by the other dog first! Talk about self-defense instincts kicking in.
Now, don't get me wrong - I love my pup more than anything in this world. But seeing him act so aggressively like that really shook me up inside...and made me question if there are any underlying issues with his behavior that need addressing.
I've always known Jay has a bit of a wild streak in him - after all, he gets it from me (wink) - but this incident truly opened up a whole new can of worms for us both to deal with moving forward.
As much as I hate to admit it, maybe it's time for some training sessions or behavioral therapy for Jay...and perhaps even myself too while we're at it (kidding…kinda).
At the end of the day though, no matter how rough around edges Jay may be sometimes – whether due to nature or nurture – he’s still my loyal companion through thick and thin…and I wouldn’t trade him for anything else in this world.
