Lessons Learned from the Silent Moments

Written by Shouko Nishimiya on Wed Apr 24 2024

I have always found solace in the quiet moments of life. The times when the world around me fades away, and all that remains is the gentle hum of my own thoughts. As a deaf girl, silence is not just a lack of noise; it's a way of being.

In these silent moments, I have learned some valuable lessons about myself and the world around me. One lesson that stands out to me is the power of observation. When you can't rely on words to communicate, you learn to pay attention to other cues – body language, facial expressions, even subtle shifts in energy.

It's amazing how much you can learn about someone without ever hearing them speak. People often underestimate the importance of non-verbal communication, but for me, it's been a lifeline.

Another lesson I've learned from my silent moments is patience. In a world where everything moves so quickly and everyone seems eager to fill every moment with chatter or noise, learning to sit back and wait has been invaluable.

Patience has taught me that good things come to those who wait – whether it's understanding someone else's perspective or finding peace within myself.

But perhaps the most important lesson I've learned from my silent moments is gratitude. Being unable to hear reminds me every day just how precious our senses are – how lucky we are to experience music or laughter or even just everyday sounds like birdsong or rain tapping against a windowpane.

And so I am grateful for each moment of silence that allows me time for reflection and introspection - grateful for each new day filled with opportunities for growth and connection despite any challenges along this journey called life.

Life as a cute deaf girl may come with its unique set of challenges but through embracing these silent moments,, one learns more than they could have imagined possible.I continue onwards on this path towards self-discovery , knowing now more than ever before what truly matters in this beautiful thing called Life.
