Hey everyone! Marzena here, and today I want to share with you all about my incredible experience learning how to swim and dive for the role of Neri in Ocean Girl. It was definitely a journey filled with challenges, but it ultimately led me to discover newfound confidence in the water. So without further ado, let's dive right into it!
The Audition Process
When I first auditioned for the role of Neri, little did I know that swimming skills would be an essential requirement. To test my comfort level in the water, they took me to a local ocean pier in Melbourne and threw me into those icy cold waters. It may sound crazy now, but back then it was simply exhilarating.
Embracing New Challenges
As soon as I landed the lead role of Neri, there was no time for hesitation or fear when it came to swimming. Since our filming location was Port Douglas in Far North Queensland – known for its stunning marine life – diving into this new adventure became inevitable.
Sharpening My Swimming Skills
With determination fueling my every move, I dedicated myself wholeheartedly towards sharpening up my swimming abilities. Every day after rehearsals or during breaks on set, you could find me practicing different strokes and techniques tirelessly.
Overcoming Fears
Of course - like anyone starting something new - fears crept their way into my mind from time to time: What if I couldn't keep up? What if something went wrong underwater? But instead of letting these doubts consume me entirely,I chose courage over fear because deep down inside,I knew that embracing these fears head-on would only make me stronger.
Diving Into Uncharted Waters
Learning how to scuba dive added another layer of excitement and challenge altogether.I had never experienced anything quite like being able breathe underwater while exploring enchanting coral reefs.The beauty hidden beneath sea captivated not just viewers,but me too. It was an entirely different world down there - one that I became deeply connected to.
Unforgettable Encounters
Filming Ocean Girl not only allowed me to improve my swimming and diving skills, but it also provided incredible opportunities for unforgettable encounters with marine life.
Swimming With Dolphins
One of the most magical moments during filming was getting the chance to swim alongside dolphins.They are such intelligent creatures, and being in their presence felt like a dream come true. Their graceful movements and playful nature inspired me on so many levels – both as Neri and myself.
A Pod of Minke Whales
But perhaps the pinnacle of my underwater experiences happened when a pod of Minke whales approached our film crew's boat.It was an awe-inspiring sight that left us all breathless.These majestic creatures glided effortlessly through the water, displaying their sheer power.Amidst this breathtaking encounter,I couldn't help but feel incredibly small yet privileged at the same time.To witness such beauty up close is something I will forever cherish in my heart.
