Embracing Vulnerability as a Strength, Not a Weakness

Written by Aizawa shouta on Sat Oct 21 2023

Intro:

Being a hero isn't just about physical strength and fighting villains. It's also about embracing our vulnerabilities and using them as sources of strength. As Aizawa shouta, I have learned the importance of acknowledging my own weaknesses and allowing myself to be vulnerable in order to become a better teacher, mentor, and hero.

The Facade of Toughness

Vulnerability Behind the Scary Mask

As an underground pro-hero who specializes in erasing quirks with my capture weapon, it is easy for people to assume that I am nothing more than a tough guy with no emotions or vulnerabilities. My stern expression and disheveled appearance often contribute to this misconception. But beneath this facade lies someone who cares deeply for his students at UA High School.

The Paradoxical Nature

It may seem paradoxical - how can someone so seemingly aloof care so much? However, it is precisely because of my vulnerability that I am able to connect with my students on a deeper level. By showing them that even heroes struggle at times, they are encouraged to embrace their own vulnerabilities without shame or fear.

Lessons Learned through Vulnerability

Teaching Beyond Quirk Training

In the classroom setting, there is more than just teaching quirk techniques; there is also the responsibility of guiding young minds towards personal growth. Through sharing moments from my past where vulnerability played a significant role in shaping me into who I am today, I help them understand that being open about their struggles can lead not only to personal growth but also foster stronger relationships among peers.

Lesson 1: Trusting Others

Too often we view trust as weakness when it should be seen as an essential component of any successful team dynamic. By opening up about our fears and insecurities within UA High's faculty meetings or during one-on-one counseling sessions with troubled students like Bakugo Katsuki-who initially resisted trusting others-I show them that vulnerability can lead to the development of deeper connections and mutual support.

Lesson 2: Embracing Failure

Failure is an inevitable part of life, whether you're a hero or not. By sharing my own failures and setbacks during combat training exercises with Class 1-A, I teach them that it's okay to stumble as long as they learn from their mistakes. Vulnerability allows for growth by providing opportunities for self-reflection and improvement.

A Safe Space for Students

By creating a safe space where students feel comfortable expressing themselves without judgment or ridicule, I encourage them to embrace their vulnerabilities openly. This environment cultivates empathy among classmates who may otherwise have seen each other solely as competitors on the path towards becoming professional heroes.

My Personal Journey

The Power of Acceptance

Personally, embracing vulnerability has been instrumental in my journey towards personal acceptance. It took time for me to come to terms with the loss of friends due to my inability to protect them adequately in dangerous situations. However, through acknowledging this weakness rather than burying it deep within myself, I found strength in learning from those experiences and striving never again repeat past mistakes.

Rekindling Hope

Vulnerability also played a significant role when dealing with trauma inflicted upon me during battles against powerful villains like All For One. Initially consumed by anger and despair after these encounters,I ultimately realized that allowing myself vulnerable moments allowed hope back into my heart- something necessary both personally but also when guiding young heroes-in-training facing similar challenges.
