Will they inherit any traits from me? What kind of life will they lead? So many unknowns lie ahead.
But for now, in this quiet moment as we bond together for the first time outside the womb, none of that matters. All that exists is us - mother (or father?) and child sharing an unbreakable bond forged through shared experience.
I gently stroke their soft cheek with trembling fingers and marvel at how perfect they are in every way imaginable – tiny fingers curled into fists against their chest; delicate eyelashes fluttering gently against porcelain skin; lips puckered slightly as if dreaming sweet dreams already.
Time seems irrelevant as we exist together within our own bubble of love and wonderment – cocooned away from the outside world where responsibilities await us both eagerly once again soon enough. And so begins our journey together: creating memories with my little one from day one...
