A Quest for the Golden Fleece

Written by Percy Jackson on Sun Oct 22 2023

Hey, Diary. It's Percy here, and let me tell you about the craziest quest I've ever been on - a Quest for the Golden Fleece! Now, I know what you're thinking. "Percy, haven't you already been on enough quests?" And yeah, maybe that's true. But when Chiron told me that this time it was personal and that my best friend Grover would be in danger if we didn't succeed... well, I couldn't say no.

The Call to Adventure

It all started at Camp Half-Blood during one of our regular campfire sing-alongs (which are never really normal). As we were roasting marshmallows over the fire pit shaped like a trident (because why not?), Annabeth suddenly jumped up with excitement. She had just figured out where the Golden Fleece was hiding - in the Sea of Monsters!

Now normally, going into monster-infested waters wouldn't be such a great idea. But Annabeth also discovered that this particular fleece had healing powers strong enough to cure any ailment or revive anything from death itself! Plus there was an added bonus: finding this fleece might help heal Thalia's tree back at camp.

Preparations

So naturally, being demigods with nothing better to do than risk our lives every other day (thanks Zeus), we decided to go on yet another epic adventure together. We gathered our team - Jason Grace son of Jupiter who could fly through storms like nobody’s business; Frank Zhang son of Mars who turned into animals; Leo Valdez son of Hephaestus who could create fire out of thin air; Piper daughter of Aphrodite whose charmspeak abilities were second only to her beauty; Hazel daughter Pluto who could control precious metals – and set sail for uncharted waters.

I won’t lie diary but boarding The Argo II, which is a badass ancient warship that can fly, felt pretty awesome. It was like stepping into history and becoming part of the myths we had grown up hearing about. The crew took their positions, and off we went on our quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece.

Facing Monsters

The sea voyage started out smoothly enough (for once), with Poseidon's blessing keeping us safe from storms and sea monsters… until it didn't. Just when I thought we were in for an easy ride, Charybdis decided to make an appearance. You know her - she’s that giant whirlpool monster who likes to eat ships for breakfast.

We barely managed to escape her clutches but not without losing some good men along the way – or at least they would be if this ship hadn’t been named after me! We continued onward, facing countless challenges such as battling Laistrygonians (giant cannibals) and dealing with Scylla (another lovely man-eating monster).

Friendships Tested

But perhaps one of my biggest fears on this quest wasn't any mythical creature; it was losing my friends along the way. Each time we faced danger head-on, I couldn't help but worry about Grover's safety in particular.

You see Diary; Grover had managed to infiltrate Polyphemus' lair while disguised as a female cyclops - talk about gutsy moves! He played his pipes so beautifully that even Cyclops fell asleep listening to him. But now he was trapped there all alone while waiting for us rescue him...and save Annabeth too!

Triumphs & Sacrifices

As much as I wanted everything to go according plan diary – you know me – things never do turn out quite right where Percy is concerned.
