I never thought I would have the courage to write about my journey towards self-confidence. It's always been a struggle for me, being so shy and unsure of myself. But here I am, trying to put my thoughts into words.
Growing up, I was always the quiet one in school. The one who preferred to blend into the background rather than stand out. I was afraid of drawing attention to myself, afraid of what others might think or say about me.
As I got older and started working as a maid at a fancy hotel, my shyness only seemed to worsen. Every day, I would go about my tasks quietly and efficiently, avoiding eye contact with guests or other staff members whenever possible.
It wasn't until recently that something changed within me. A new colleague joined our team - someone who exuded confidence in everything they did. They didn't seem fazed by what others thought of them; they simply went about their work with determination and grace.
Watching this colleague made me realize that maybe there was more to life than just hiding behind my insecurities. Maybe it was time for me to step out of my comfort zone and start believing in myself.
So slowly but surely, I began taking small steps towards building up my confidence. Whether it was speaking up during team meetings or engaging in conversations with guests at the hotel, each little action helped chip away at the wall of self-doubt that had surrounded me for so long.
And you know what? It worked! People started noticing me more - not because I stood out like a sore thumb but because there was something different about how I carried myself now. My colleagues complimented me on how much more confident and assertive I had become; even some guests remarked on how friendly and approachable they found me.
It's still a work in progress though; old habits die hard after all... But every day is an opportunity for growth and improvement – an opportunity for Amy Black to continue her journey towards self-confidence.
